What is M-commerce? The last decade has witnessed a lot of growth of mobile communication devices and wireless technologies across the globe. This has led to a change in the way many activities are conducted and opened the way for m-commerce, which is e-commerces next evolutionary stage. The significant power of m-commerce is primarily as a result of the ability to connect wireless devices anytime, anywhere (The Future of Mobile Payment Systems : Rise of the Mobile Wallet 2012-2017 [Electronic version], 2011). Mobile commerce also known as M-commerce refers to electronic transactions and communications conducted using mobile devices such as laptops, PDAs and mobile phones, and typically with a wireless connection (Dave, 2011). It also enables businesses to offer personalized and localized content as mobile devices enable them to have access to consumerââ¬â¢s preferences, status and location. M-commerce plays a key role in expanding the audience of a business on a massive scale, especially in developing countries where most people access the internet on mobile devices because they cannot afford a PC. Some businesses like Amazon and EBay have felt the huge impact of m-commerce. Though for most retail companies, sales via mobile devices is still a small fraction of total sales. When looking at the world as a whole, the potential for m-commerce is astounding. A lot of retailers are seeing increased sales via mobile devices with a larger percentage of those sales coming from tablets and less from Smartphones. M-commerce currently accounts for over 11% of all e-commerce sales and theses figure are still rising. However, one question that needs to be asked, is whether all businesses will benefit from embracing m-commerce.
